Product Hunt was founded by Ryan Hoover in 2013. It allows users to vote on new product releases and express their opinions.

Product Hunt users are also very active and eager to assist with feature suggestions and constructive criticism.

Although most platform’s users are passionate indie entrepreneurs, some successful founders of startups have used Product Hunt to their advantage such as Ryan Petersen of Flexport and Baiju Bhatt from Robinhood.

Inbound Marketing

Inbound marketing has the advantage of being able to grab prospects’ attention before they even know that they have a buying need. Inbound marketing can also be used to inform (potential) clients about you, your mission, and vision or simply be a resource for any query.

The term was first coined by HubSpot founders Brian Halligan & Dharmesh Shaikh in 2006. HubSpot still practices the teachings that they sought.hubspot.com

SimilarWeb says that the company has close to 30,000,000 monthly visitors. Half of these are attracted to search engines, which HubSpot uses most heavily in its inbound marketing efforts.

Think Leadership

Many founders are successful because they use the many channels that are available to them (e.g. LinkedIn, Twitter or their personal blogs are all ways for successful founders to show their industry expertise and b) build a following and gain attention.

Think about it: Every time you post something thoughtful to LinkedIn or Twitter, thousands will see it. Every single one of them could be a lead.

Jason Lemkin, the founder and CEO at SaaStr.com (a blog that has over 2 million readers per month), is a great example of thought leadership within the SaaS sector. Jason Lemkin, founder and CEO of SaaStr.com, has his own SaaS investment trust called SaaStrFund. He also organizes an annual SaaS conference, SaaStrAnnual.

He also makes it a point to give his followers a lot of valuable advice, which increases their likelihood to attend his events or have him invest in their startups.Jason BeKind Lemkin (@jasonlk) Some products are so complex that a trial should not be offered. A pilot or deployment that is really important. A pilot or deployment that really needs to be managed.

Reddit

Reddit is often called the frontpage of the Internet. It’s a user-created social media news aggregator. It is essentially a collection forum on almost any topic you can think of, from soccer to absolute gems like Trees Sucking on Things.

Marketing your product starts with identifying all relevant channels (called Subreddits).

It is important to learn the rules and regulations of your community before you make your first post. Some channels will even ban users from posting advertisements.

Before you post your first post, be sure to engage with the community. Contribute value to the community and establish yourself as a leader.reddit.com

Don’t just insert a link to your product when it comes time for posting. Instead, you should focus on creating value-adding content. You could do a case study or research study, conduct an AMA (“Ask Me Anything”) or even a video introducing the product.

It should be obvious that you will not use shills. Reddit users will call you out on fake accounts, employee upvoting, and undisclosed sponsored sponsors.
